But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.

James 1:22
Youth and Young Adults

Photo of Alina WilliamsYouth and Young Adults are an important part of the life of St. James. A crucial aspect to your youth program allowing young people the space to explore and question their faith.  Junior high students meet a few times per month at EYC (see below). Our high school students are very busy and meet with the youth minister to discuss some of the issues that face yount adults today. We also have a young professionals group.  These are important times in the lives of young people, and St. James has a place for everyone! For more information about youth programs and activities, please contact Alina Williams at awilliams@stjamesbr.org

EYC (Episcopal Youth Community)
Youth from 6th through 8th grade are encouraged to be part of this program. We have fun, explore Christian faith, ask questions, and just be ourselves. We meet twice a month for discussions, fellowship, and fun.  Please email Alina for a copy of the schedule.

This year the EYC is focusing on the eight Millennium Development Goals that strive to eradicate extreme poverty in the world. Christ tells us that what we do to the least of these, we do to him. The EYC strives to learn about the realities of poverty and works to help those in need through fund raising, service, and prayer. This year we've donated insect netting to help eradicate malaria in sub-Saharan Africa and also supported Heifer International.

We served our homeless and poorest neighbors at the December Feast of St. James and will for future Sunday meals. We've made public service announcements about the great needs of so many of our brothers and sisters. We're living out our Christian responsibility. Not bad for a group of teenagers!

EYC in the City
Join St. James' EYC as we explore Baton Rouge through some great local adventures. Past adventures have included a Haunted Cornfield and the historic LSU Rural Life Museum's Christmas Celebration. Who knows where we'll go next? Email Alina for a schedule of EYC in the City outings.

Confirm, not Conform
Ever wondered what it really means to be confirmed? What's the big deal about church and faith anyway? And what if you're not sure you always believe in God? Bring all your questions, doubts, answers, and thoughts to Confirm not Conform... a new and innovative confirmation or post-confirmation program for 8th to 12th graders. Our gathering begins in late February. Contact Mtr. Laurie Brock at lbrock@stjamesbr.org.

Yount Adult Ministry
Young adults, grades 9th through 12th, are encouraged to come to this program.  Similar to the EYC program, Young Adult Ministry focuses on age appropriate discussions for teenagers of today's contemporary society.  These young adults are given the opportunity to lead, discuss, and build relationships. Grey's Theology is happening on Sundays after the 11:00 am service. For more information, please contact Alina Williams at awilliams@stjamesbr.org.

Mission and Ministry Trips
Each summer our youth have opportunities to participate in mission and ministry trips to serve others, and learn more about our own faith. This year we are planning a pilgrimage through the Mid-South to trace the steps of Martin Luther King, Jr.  A work mission trip is also in our sights for the summer of 2010.  Both trips will be a time for our youth and young adults to learn and grow spiritually, as well as a time to give back a portion of what God has given us.  Please contact Alina Williams for more information.

Sunday Morning Fellowship
Youth and Young Adults meet on Sunday mornings in the Youth Classroom for a time of food and fellowship. Stop by and hang out with us any Sunday morning from 10:00-10:45 in the Ministries Center, across Fourth Street from the church!
