SENIORS BRAVO! 

It is time to mark your calendars and make your plans to attend our next fun outing.  We will gather at 11:30 am for lunch at Bravo's on Tuesday, August 4th.  Our price per person will be $25.00 and your reservation will be your check made payable to St. James and mailed to Helen Campbell at the Church office.  Our special guest speaker for this event will be our own Smiley Anders. Save your spot early.

St. James Center for Spiritual Formation Sponsors 5th Sunday Speaker on August 30th - Phyllis Tickle, Doctor of Humane Letters, Berkeley School of Divinity, Yale University


Her topic for the evening will be "Being Church in the 21st Century: What We Are, How We Got Here, Where We Are Going" The topic is related to and coincides with the recent release of her book, The Great Emergence: How Christianity is Changing and Why.

Mrs. Tickle will speak to the congregation at the 10:30 combined service.  Following the service, char broiled hamurgers with all the trimmings will be served.  She will meet and hold informal conversation with the youth at 5:00 p.m. in the youth room. At 6:00 p.m. all are invited to attend her presentation in the Parish Hall Parlor. It is free, open to the public, and a nursery for children ages 3 months to 4 years is available.

Phyllis Tickle is a Senior Fellow of Cathedral College of the Washington National Cathedral and the founding editor of the Religion Department of Publishers Weekly.  Tickle began her career as a college teacher and served as academic dean to the Memphis College of Art before entering full time into writing and publishing.

In September 1996 she received the Mays Award, one of the book industry's most prestigious awards for lifetime achievement in writing and publishing, and specifically in recognition of her work in gaining mainstream media coverage of religion publishing.  In 2007, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Christy Awards "In gratitude for a lifetime as an advocate for fiction written to the glory of God."

Most Recent Books:  The Words of Jesus and The Great Emergence:  How Christianity is Changing and Why.

A lay Eucharistic minister and lector in the Episcopal Church, she is the mother of seven children and, with her physician-husband, makes her home on a small farm in Lucy, Tennessee.
